why i picked horror
I chose horror because horror is a fascinating genre to me. The whole point of horror is to take the worst fears of people and use those save fears to entertained them through scaring them all the same. That is what inspired me to pick the horror genre. One of my favorite horror movie is “A Nightmare On Elm Street” because it has one of the best openings to me. The movie starts with someone constructing knife gloves perfectly fit for his or her hands. The character’s face never once gets revealed during the construction of the gloves drawing in the audience even more because they want to know who the person is. Is he/she the bad guy or the good guy the audience wants to know. Then the movie cuts to a woman who is running away from something or someone obviously scared out of her mind. The person is never revealed though. This also draws the audience in more because they start to wonder if it is the same mysterious person that was making the gloves in the beginning or if its someone or something else. The woman is eventually gets caught up by the thing that was chasing her and is revealed to be a human that sounds like a man and he is wearing the glove from the beginning of the movie. The mysterious bad guy cuts the girl and then the girl woke up revealing that that its was all a dream. The girls parents comes in her room revealing to her that the place she got cut by the mysterious bad guy in her dream go cut in real life revealing to the audience that whatever the bad guy does to you in your dreams happens to you in real life and that is scary.
My second and final favorite horror movie opening is “Friday the 13th 5”. Starts off with two teenagers that go and wake jason up again from his grave thinking that he is dead. They dig his grave out and take out jason’s coffin and immediately after they did that jason wakes up and proceed to kill both teens, and gets up and walks slowly to the third kid that was hiding in the bushes. The kid was frozen out of fear and could not run away and begged jason not to kill him. Jason shows no remorse and proceed to go for the killer blow, before the blow could land someone wakes up and the audience sees that it was all a dream all along. This is a good movie opening because it immediately starts off with action and does not make the audience wait a long time. This is good because it makes the audience want more action and makes them focus on the movie even more waiting for the next thing that scares them. Sometimes using the mystery is good and others getting right to the point is good these two movies used these completely different opening to create great movies.
